Summary
The Smithsonian Institution (SI) is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo. This position is located in the Office of Contracting and Personal Property Management. The Office of Contracting and Personal Property Management is responsible for the overall planning, management and execution of SI's contracting, simplified purchasing, personal property and policy programs. Duties
The Contract Specialist acts as the overall contract administrator for assigned projects in exhibit fabrication and design. In this position, you will: Drafts, solicits, negotiates and awards contracts for unique services, often with innovative financial arrangements. Provides guidance during contract administration concerning contract change orders, resolving contract claims and disputes, terminations for default and convenience, etc. Prepares all necessary contract documents, assuring the inclusion of all provisions required by law, regulation, and policy.

Education

How You Will Be Evaluated
Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above. The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria: 1.Skill in drafting, soliciting, negotiating, and awarding Federal and/or commercial contracts in areas such as exhibit fabrication and design; new construction; the restoration and renovation of historic buildings; architecture and engineering studies and design; general goods and services. 2. Knowledge of contract administration procedures including change orders, contract terminations, contractor claims or disputes and execution of settlement agreements. 3. Knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), contracting laws, regulations, GAO principles, and practices, both federal and commercial.
